The Free State Cricket Union is in mourning following the sudden passing of Judy Vorster on Tuesday morning.

Vorster worked at the cricket union for 11 years where she filled various roles from club to women’s cricket.

She has left a lasting impression on all the lives she touched in the cricket fraternity in the province and was instrumental in building the women’s game.

Vorster recently underwent surgery and suffered a heart attack early on Tuesday morning.

CEO of Free State Cricket, Johan van Heerden, told OFM News that Vorster will be dearly missed.

“It was sad to learn of the passing of Judy,” said Van Heerden.

“Judy had an intense love for the game and was a fantastic contributor for women's cricket. She also looked after the match official among other things and she just loved the game.

“It was always pleasant to the see the fighting spirit she portrayed.

“The legacy that she left with was starting the academy for the young ladies and girls’ cricket - this is where our pipeline will be secured for the future.

“She was an extremely hard worker and will be missed by all of us. The 11 years that she spent with us is most definitely something that will stay with us for the next decade.

“Thank you, Judy, for what you have done for us.”

Vorster was 48 years old and is survived by her husband and two children.

A memorial service will be held for Vorster on at 11:00 on Friday, 22 July, at the NG Church Wilgehof, in Bloemfontein.
