North West tavern owner stable after shooting─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 11:35 Mon, 25 Jul 2022
A North West tavern owner in Jouberton, Klerksdorp, is in a stable condition after he was allegedly shot during an armed business robbery.
The North West police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh, says the 42-year-old tavern owner was shot in the stomach after refusing to open the cash register.
The suspects allegedly entered the tavern, threatened patrons and fired shots randomly before robbing some customers of their cell phones. She adds that the alleged robbers proceeded to break open a burglar door leading into the owner’s house, and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money. They fled to a nearby field from where they escaped in two vehicles - a white Toyota Quantum minibus and a white bakkie.
The tavern owner was admitted to a local hospital. According to Myburgh, no other injuries were reported and the police are still searching for the suspects.
She further pleaded with community members, who might have information that can assist with the investigation, to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Mangaliso Mosiea, on 072-476-4679, or visit their nearest police station.
