Free State man in court for allegedly trying to sell illegal firearm─── 11:18 Tue, 26 Jul 2022
A Free State man will reportedly appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to sell an illegal firearm this past weekend. The 26-year-old man from Qwaqwa was arrested on Sunday 24 July 2022.
SAPS spokesperson, Mmako Mophiring, told OFM News that the man was arrested by the Tactical Response Team (TRT) while being in possession of an illegal 9mm pistol, which had three rounds of live ammunition. The TRT reportedly received a tip-off from a concerned member of the public, who alleged the suspect wanted to sell the illegal firearm.
“So they contacted the members who went there, and they had spotted the particular suspect walking around. Fortunately, he was in the streets and they approached the suspect. Upon approaching him, they searched him and found the firearm on his waist. The firearm’s serial number is still visible enough. It will be circulated to find the owner of that firearm.”
