An independent investigation into the death of a patient who fell from the 7th floor at the Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital in the Free State, is currently underway.
The Free State Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says the police and forensic team started their investigations immediately after they were called to the scene.
OFM News previously reported that the matron, head nurse, and CEO of the hospital were notified about the incident. The police, together with the forensic team, were also called to the scene after a security guard had discovered the body of a man lying on the floor in a pool of blood in the corridor leading to the admission office.
Mvambi had stated that the patient was transferred from the Dr JS Moroka District Hospital to the Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital on Sunday 17 July 2022, after sustaining burns on the same day. He said that the patient did not show any signs of confusion at any point and did not exhibit any signs of alcohol or substance withdrawal.
