The Molopo Magistrates’ Court has postponed the trial against the former Head of the Specialized Commercial Crimes Unit (SCCU), in North West - Adv. Jeanette Nevelling (54) - to 6 and 7 September 2022.
Two of the state witnesses (who are employees of a retail store where the alleged crime occurred) have completed giving testimony. The state is expected to call more witnesses when the matter resumes in September.
Nevelling was arrested on 16 February 2021, at The Crossing Shopping Mall in Mmabatho, where it is alleged that she stole clothing and food items valued at approximately R3000. She was granted R500 bail.
Meanwhile, Adv. Mashudu Mudau, from the Limpopo Division of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), representing the state, expressed his satisfaction with how proceedings are going, as he believes the matter will be completed speedily.
Adv. Nevelling has since resigned, and effectively ceased being an NPA employee as of 30 October 2021.
