School buses are reportedly not allowed to operate in the Meyerton, De Deur, Sharpeville, Rusoord, and Panfontein areas in the Sedibeng District Municipality.

According to social media posts, this community has allegedly been intimidating drivers and stoning buses.

Gauteng Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, said the Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has condemned these acts of violence. This follows the death of a Meyerton High School pupil who died after a school bus drove over him.

“Lesufi expressed how disheartened he is by the death of a grade 11 Meyerton High School learner who died on Tuesday morning while boarding the department’s school bus. He further called upon the community of the Sedibeng District Municipality to allow learners to use scholar transport accordingly. Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the incident.”
