Mangaung residents frustrated by lack of water─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:09 Sun, 31 Jul 2022
Residents of the troubled Mangaung Metro Municipality are frustrated with the lack of water supply in some areas for the past three days.
The spokesperson of the metro, Qondile Khedama, had earlier stated that there will be water cuts in some areas as Bloem Water conducts maintenance work on the Welbedacht system.
He also stated that the scope of the work included replacing the outlet valve at the Brandkop reservoir and the cleaning and inspection of the dam by the Department of Water and Sanitation.
Khedama later revealed that the maintenance was completed and that water will be gradually restored. He, however, added that some areas will be affected by low water pressure or supply interruptions, due to the topographic level based on low levels of reservoirs during the maintenance.
Khedama says the team is working around the clock to ensure that water is restored after receiving complaints from residents who are still without water.
He adds that it was discovered that a pressure-reducing valve, which is an inlet to the reservoir, has been fiddled with and this has resulted in further delays.
Khedama says that the metro's Acting City Manager, Tebogo Motlhashuping, interacted with law enforcement agencies to deal with any suspicion of sabotage.
