Northern Cape residents left in the dark─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:20 Tue, 02 Aug 2022

Residents of Roodepan in the Northern Cape were left stranded, spending several days without electricity.
The Sol Plaatje Municipal spokesperson, Thoko Riet, tells OFM News that there were a sequence of events that led to power cuts in Roodepan, specifically in Narbon.
She says that issues of power outages started when a fibre company allegedly damaged a cable in Aloe last week.
Riet adds that the incident was followed by an animal that managed to short circuit the red phase of the power transformer at Midlands Substation.
She says this caused a huge power surge which resulted in multiple damages.
Since then, the team has been working around the clock to ensure that electricity is restored to all affected areas.
A fault-finding electrical company was also called in to assist the municipality so that all remaining areas get their power back.
She says by Sunday, 80% of affected households had electricity. She says that on Monday, the fault-finding electrical company was called in.
