DA supports Maluti-A-Phofung municipality in energy action plan─── 12:31 Wed, 03 Aug 2022
The energy action plan of the MAP16 civic movement for Maluti-a-Phofung, is reportedly looking into prioritising the eradication of illegal electricity connections.
The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Shadow Minister of Energy, Kevin Mileham, shared the party’s suggestions on Tuesday, which indicated an agreement to propose support for MAP16’s plans.
The DA ward councillor in the municipality, Moshe Lefuma, told OFM News that the DA supports plans to allow Eskom to take over the energy distribution but does not fully agree with the implementation plan.
“They are just talking about the Eskom issue but the implementation thereof is false, they do not follow the right procedure. They do not follow the correct protocols. We did say we support the Eskom take-over [of energy distribution] in the municipality and we have made it public. So we support that they take charge of everything related to electricity in Maluti-a-Phofung. That is what we have agreed on.”
OFM News previously reported that according to the municipality’s new administration, no penalties for illegal electricity connections will be issued to Maluti-a-Phofung residents. The administration has started replacing bridged meter boxes with new sealed boxes as they battle the electricity crisis in the municipality.
