Maluti-a-Phofung to address gender-based violence─── 13:07 Wed, 10 Aug 2022
The Special Programmes Unit in the Office of the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Gilbert Mokotso, is expected to have a session to address gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
The municipality’s spokesperson, Thabo Khesa, told OFM News that the objective of the dialogue is to address challenges faced by victims of GBVF and getting justice for them.
Khesa says on Monday the Special Programmes Unit had a march, as they celebrate Women’s Month by supporting initiatives to keep women safe from victimisation.
“Today we have a dialogue with various stakeholders, talking about such issues. We are expecting the South African Police Services, the Department of Social Development, the National Prosecuting Agency and other very important stakeholders; to conscientise different sector departments and different stakeholders. So we are trying to say to the Department of Justice, for example, be careful in dealing with such cases. Do not release alleged perpetrators to go back and commit similar kinds of atrocities against women”.
