Northern Cape women acknowledged─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 13:09 Wed, 10 Aug 2022
The Northern Cape Government has vowed to continue empowering women in the province as part of economic emancipation of women within the province.
During the provincial Women’s Day commemoration held on Tuesday at Colesberg, premier Zamani Saul pledged R5 million to the Umsobomvu Municipality. This will go towards the Local Economic Development (LED) project as part of assisting women to grow their businesses and allow them to be employers and contribute towards growing the local economy. Saul handed out R10 000 to 30 women who own businesses as part of supporting small businesses. Saul also handed over a R100 000 cheque to Nthabiseng Majiya, who was part of the Banyana Banyana team that recently won the Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and who contributed immensely during the victory. Saul handed over sporting equipment to local teams and donated R100 000 and R150 000 to the Colesberg Primary School Choir and Umso High School Choir respectively.

He concluded that the Northern Cape Government will remain committed in strengthening its work towards ensuring the equitable and fair distribution of the provincial resources between men and women, re-shaping of power and care responsibilities, and the total eradication of gender-based violence and femicide.
