The African National Congress' (ANC) alliance, the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco), is adamant that the elective conference of the ANC will get under way on Saturday.

This is despite a court interdict that was granted by the High Court in Mahikeng last night when judge Frances Maria Magrietha Snyman ruled that at least 20 members of the ANC's temporary structure, called the Interim Provincial Committee (IPC), cannot part-take in the voting processes of the conference.

Sanco says they want the conference to reflect more on economic recovery. This, as the Covid-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the economy of the province, with small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) also being hit hard.

The chairperson of Sanco, Paul Sebegoe, emphasised that land transformation must also be prioritised during the ANC's conference, more especially where there is mining activities and traditional leaders.

Sebegoe told OFM News that as SANCO, they are aware that communities, who have land, do not benefit accordingly.

When asked about ongoing factional battles, Sebegoe said: "SANCO do not want to express internal processes of the ANC," but they are looking forward to a peaceful conference that will be influenced by democratic processes.
