School receives classrooms following unrest | News Article

A school in North West has received 16 mobile classrooms - after a month-long protest by parents.

Learning and teaching is set to resume for the first time since the winter break at the Morokweng primary school near Taung - as parents have been protesting over school's poor conditions.

North West department of education spokesperson, Ellias Malindi, confirmed that teaching and learning will resume, adding that mobile classrooms will be sent to mitigate the challenge.

OFM News learnt a month ago that parents in the area were protesting, and want the construction of the new building to commence immediately. Malindi told OFM News that more mobile classrooms will be sent when needed.

One parent, Bontle Diphoko, says for now it's best to allow learners to go back to classes, as they are happy they were told they will not be using the old building for much longer.

Meanwhile, MEC Wendy Matsemela says a citing a recovery plan has been tabled to help learners to catch up and conclude the syllabus.

Matsemela also indicated that processes are unfolding to build new school.

Parents have been complaining that the school building is dilapidated and that the roof is collapsing.
