Women from Sasolburg in the Free State were celebrated and informed on how to participate in the electoral democracy by the provincial Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa on Friday.
The Provincial IEC’s spokesperson, Mathabo Rasengani, says that as the commission, they wanted more women to know how their participation can be seen in the electoral democracy. A number of women were invited to speak to the women of Sasolburg about healing and hope.
She adds that more women need to take part in the leadership of political parties.

She further adds that at least 100 women were present at the event.
Outreach programmes were also held that focused on contact sessions with women from all spheres of society through different platforms. The aim was to recognise the fundamental role that women play in society, highlighting the contribution of women in various sectors, reflecting on representation and participation of women in government, business and other industries.
The daily challenges women face in society, while identifying barriers and possible strategies for effective female participation in the electoral democratic process, was also part of the agenda for the event.
