Campaign launched against anti-social behavior in Free State schools─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 12:00 Sun, 21 Aug 2022
The Motheo district in the Free State will receive a visit on Monday from Basic Education Deputy Minister, Makgabo Reginah Mhaule, and the provincial MEC of Education, Tate Makgoe.
Their aim is to launch a campaign that will focus on "No Racism, Bullying, and Anti-Social behaviour in schools”.
The campaign was initially launched by Makgoe earlier this year in Welkom after allegations of racism, assault and bullying at schools in the Lejweleputswa District.
Makgoe says the purpose of the campaign is to eradicate the scourge of subliminal and blatant racism, among other anti-social behaviours, as they disrupt learning and teaching in schools.

Mhaule and Makgoe’s visit to the district will kick off at HTS Louis Botha in Bloemfontein.
“Together with our stakeholders, which includes school management teams, School Governing Bodies, the South African Police Services, Department of Social Development, Department of Health, through this campaign we will be able to bring to an end racism, sexism, vandalism, assault, corporal punishment, sexual harassment, alcohol and drug abuse,” Makgoe adds.
The launch of this campaign followed after videos were doing the rounds on social media highlighting alleged racism, assault and bullying.
Some of the incidents that have been reported to the department of education include learner-on-learner violence, which in some instances has led to the death ofpupils.

The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) in the Free State has previously brought Wessel Maree in Odendaalsrus to a standstill by picketing.
The picketing followed on the heels of a video that went viral, of a teacher supposedly pushing over a learner. Cosas’ Provincial Chairperson, Katleho Modupi, told OFM News that they have delivered a memorandum of demands to the school, which should be delivered to the Department of Education.
This, despite the department’s decision to suspend the teacher in the said video, pending an investigation.
