Cosatu members and its tripartite alliance members, as well as Nehawu and Samwu, have handed over the memorandum of demands to the MEC of Agriculture at the OR Tambo House in Bloemfontein in the Free State.
The issues contained in the memorandum include the high fuel levy, high unemployment rates, and poverty.
Whilst handing over the memorandum, workers were not impressed by the absence of Premier Sisi Ntombela and saw her absence as disrespectful. The leadership told MEC Thembeni Nxangisa that workers are expecting answers within the next 14 days, or there will be dire consequences.
OFM News earlier reported that a large contingent of workers was joined by some of the top Cosatu leaders, including its Deputy General Secretary, Solly Phetoe. The leaders of various unions have expressed their various positions on the shutdown march.
Different speakers have urged Ntombela to take the demands from workers serious.
Some have backed Cosatu to continue with the war against poverty and the high unemployment rate across the country.
They want the government to change policies and make sure the lives of the marginalised and poor, in particular, are changed.
