The late North West struggle veteran, Rita Alice Ndzanga, will be granted a provincial official funeral this coming Saturday.

The spokesperson for the North West Premier, Sello Tatai, states that the funeral of the struggle veteran and trade unionist, Ndzanga, which will be held Saturday 27 August 2022, was declared a provincial official funeral category 2 by President Cyril Ramaphosa. He explains that a Provincial Official Funeral Category 2 is accorded to distinguished persons, specifically designated by the President of South Africa, on request by the premier of a province. Taitai says Ramaphosa has instructed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in the North West on the day of the funeral.

OFM News previously reported that Ndzanga passed away last week Wednesday, 17 August 2022, at the age of 88. Ndzanga was the wife of the late struggle stalwart Lawrence Ndzanga, who died in prison in 1977 after being incarcerated for political activities.

Tatai says in 2004, Ndzanga received the National Order of Luthuli for her contribution to the country's struggle for liberation and her immense contribution in advocating for workers’ rights during a period marred with exploitation, abuse, and racial oppression of the black working class.

Tatai adds that Premier Bushy Maape - alongside the Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura, and other dignitaries - will pay his last respects to Ndzanga at the Kwa Ga-Mogopa Community Hall where the funeral will be taking place. He says the service will also be streamed live on the Facebook pages of the North West’s Office of the Premier and the North West Government.
