Contest between political foes in North West continues─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:25 Thu, 25 Aug 2022
The contest between political foes in the North West continues after litigation resumed between the former premier and the North West Revolutionary Council (RC).
Themba Gwabeni says former premier and ANC PEC Chairperson Supra Mahumapelo’s R10 million lawsuit against the RC has no substance and they stand by their statements.
The litigation finally resumed this week in the North West High Court where Mahumapelo is suing Gwabeni and others for R10 million over what he claims are false allegations of corruption. Gwabeni says the Auditor-General (AG) Tsakani Maluleke’s report on the bad state of municipalities in the province has somehow vindicated them on many levels.
“We have long been ready and subsequent to him serving us with court papers, we also responded adequately and we stated our facts - why we said he is corrupt and presiding over a province. The AG’s reports are there for everybody to see and remember, the ministerial task team came to the North West. Even today we are still reeling from that type of administration,” Gwabeni adds.
The civil litigation between Mahumapelo and the respondents has since been postponed to February 2023 for the defendants to acquire a legal representative. Mahumapelo is suing the RC, Themba Gwabeni, Thato Magogodi, and Lucky Kgabi.
In 2018, following his removal as premier and the ANC’s PEC Chairperson, Mahumapelo mentioned that he was targeting at least 13 people. One of them included the then Economic Freedom Fighters' provincial chairperson, Betty Diale. He accused Diale of tainting his image and discrediting him.
