A Free State woman has been convicted and sentenced for fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Electronic Communication and Transaction Act.
The 45-year-old Giselle Maritz was sentenced after she appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Hawks’ spokesperson Christopher Singo says Phatshoane Henney Inc Attorneys became aware in February 2020 of financial records being manipulated, as well as the illegal transfer of trust funds.
He adds that preliminary investigations revealed that Maritz transferred trust funds to her own personal and her mother's bank account.
Singo adds that the illegal transactions were made between 2015 and 2019.
The firm suffered a total loss of R6 million.
Maritz was sentenced to 5 years direct imprisonment.
