According to VR Med, upon arrival paramedics found that a two-year-old toddler had unfortunately sustained fatal injuries after being struck by a train.

Danie Pretorius from National Crime Assist (NCA) confirmed that the child has unfortunately passed away.

“The railway has always been a problem. In the last few years it’s not the first person that had been run over by a train in that specific area,” Pretorius added.

He said it is time that the railway takes full responsibility because there are no safety measures in place. He added that the boom gates do not work and many cars have also been damaged by trains on that railway.

Police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, confirms the incident and the scene has been handed over to Heidedal SAPS for an investigation.

This is a developing story.
