EFF North West slams murder of its councillor─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:42 Thu, 06 Oct 2022
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the North West has slammed the murder of one of its councillors who was shot dead by unknown suspects in Phokeng near Rustenburg.
The EFF Secretary-General (SG), Papiki Babuile, says at this stage the party is not aware of what might be the motive for the murder of Tsietsi Mohulatsi (58), whose body was found inside his car on Tuesday 4 October 2022, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds in his upper body. He says they are shocked by the murder of a man who was humble and cared for his community.
Babuile says they have confidence that the police will work around the clock to clamp down on the suspects who might have committed the heinous crime. The party’s national office is expected to release a full detailed statement following the murder of Mohulatsi.
Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, has confirmed that the police have launched a manhunt for the murders of ward councillor Mohulatsi. No one has been arrested following the murder and it’s not clear if the police will launch a 72-hour action, which will mean the activation of necessary and skilled personnel from the South African Police Services (SAPS).
“Mohulatsi’s lifeless body was found inside his white Nissan Navara bakkie at the Freedom Park informal settlement, between Extension 4 and 5 outside Phokeng, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 4 October 2022, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds on his upper body.
"The victim’s body was spotted by passers-by who reported the incident to the police. The motive of the incident is yet to be determined and investigations are still underway. The police request anybody who may have information that can assist in the investigation, to contact the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Seatile Modisane, on 076-834-3531. Alternatively, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Stop can be called on 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via MySAPS App,” Mokgwabone adds.
