Police warn community against mob justice | News Article

The police have warned community members of the Mafube Municipality not to take the law into their own hands after two alleged drug dealers were murdered, allegedly as a result of mob justice.

On Friday, 07 October 2022, members of the Mafube SA Police Service were summoned to a scene where a man was allegedly beaten and killed by a group of people. Emergency services were called to the scene and declared the 26-year-old dead.

About a week prior, on 29 September 2022, members received information about a 37-year-old victim who was found murdered near a church at Mafube. Upon further investigation, it is alleged that the deceased was part of the alleged drug dealers in Mafube and was attacked by members of the community.

Investigations continue and arrests will be made soon in the two murders.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Solly Lesia, strongly warns community members from taking the law into their own hands as this will have serious repercussions.

"We urge the community members to report any criminal activities to the police to allow proper investigations and bring perpetrators to justice.  "May I warn you that if you are found to be involved in mob justice, you will be arrested because it is a crime," he concluded.
