MEC to monitor matric examinations─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 09:34 Sun, 30 Oct 2022
As 39 000 matriculants are about to kick off their final examinations, Makalo Mohale, in his capacity as the Free State acting MEC for Education, will help monitor the first sit-down exams.
Departmental spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says Mohale will monitor exams at Lefikeng Secondary School in Botshabelo, in the Free State.
The school happens to be one of the largest schools in the province, with 435 learners who will be writing their final matric exams.
The MEC for Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (Destea), Mohale, is temporarily acting as the MEC for Education while MEC Tate Makgoe is abroad.
There are about 6 000 part-time National Senior Certificate (NSC) candidates in the Free State. Makalo will be monitoring exams on Monday 31 October 2022 from 08:00 as some candidates will commence with writing English First Additional Language (FAL), English Home Language (HL) and English Second Additional Language (SAL) paper 1.
There are 337 examination centres where NSC candidates will be able to write their exams. Ndaba states that the department is confident that the class of 2022 is ready and will once more make the Free State proud by ensuring that the province maintain the number one position in South Africa.
Marking of the scripts will commence from 9 to 21 December 2022, in 18 different marking centres across the province.
On 19 January, the Minister for Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, will release the national results. Education MEC Makgoe will then release the provincial results at the department’s annual ‘Well Done Function’ on 20 January 2022 at the Central University of Technology's Bloemfontein campus.
