Northern Cape school destroyed by severe storm─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:49 Thu, 03 Nov 2022
The Brandvlei Primary School in the Northern Cape has been destroyed by a severe storm.
Northern Cape Education spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, says on Wednesday 2 November 2022, the school was stuck by a severe thunderstorm which ripped through the town, causing extensive damage to the school's infrastructure. He says the incident is unfortunate and they are grateful that it took place after school hours, as learners and educators could have suffered severe injuries or even fatalities.

“At this stage, we are aware of six classrooms that were affected, where the roofs were ripped off the school building. The department will provide immediate assistance to the school in order for learners to complete the academic year,” says Van Der Merwe.
He further adds that the infrastructure team is currently on site to assess the extent of the damage at the school and the department will assess the report from the infrastructure unit to determine the way forward.
