The Free State Provincial Commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, in her keynote address, reminded residents that investigations into the killing of three police officials in the area continue.

She added residents’ concerns about drug abuse in the area will also be addressed.

Free State tavern owners have also been warned to adhere to operating times as police will be on the ground during the festive season.

This is according to Provincial Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele.

“Taverns cannot operate 24/7, there are operating times. The boots are already on the ground, and this is to ensure the safety of people who will be visiting malls and shops. Attention is also on the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), abuse of elderly, cross border policing and a multidisciplinary approach on road safety,” said Makhele.

According to Makhele, different police units attended the launch and community members enjoyed the show of force as Tactical Response Teams as well as the K9 unit demonstrated their skills to the public.
