Illegal loan sharks targeted in Northern Cape─── 10:04 Sun, 13 Nov 2022
Operation Mashonisa, aimed at illegal cash loans, was launched in the Frances Baard region by Northern Cape police.
The provincial organised crime investigation unit, accompanied by several other police units and the national credit regulator, raided two premises in Galeshewe outside Kimberley.
They seized 4 identity documents and 2 death certificates, as well as affidavits and two hardcover books which contain the names of debtors, as well as R25 000 in cash.
Two women, aged 41 and 70-years-old, have been arrested for violating the National Credit Act.
They will appear in the Galeshewe Magistrate's Court soon.
Meanwhile, police spokesperson Olebogeng Tawana warns that those in the province who rob people of their hard-earned income through illegal loans will face the full wrath of justice.
