The town of Memel in the Free State is reportedly plagued by substance abuse, gangsterism, and murder.
During a visit by the speaker of the Thabo Mofutsanyana Local Municipality, Thabo Mokoena, community members raised their concerns, particularly about the South African Police Service.
This included understaffed police stations.
In his address to residents, Mokoena was emphatic and encouraged a continuing dialogue as a measure to combat the sporadic spread of substance abuse.
Mokoena committed to addressing the matter and returning to the community to report on the intervention methods that will curb these serious problems.
