The Free State police are requesting the public to assist with information that will lead to the arrest of suspects who murdered a 60-year-old security officer in Welkom.
The police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says the body of the 60-year-old, who was a security officer at an Old Age home in Welkom, was discovered in the early hours of 7 December 2022. He says one of the employees at the St. Andrews School Welkom saw the body behind the school hall and the police were summoned to the scene.
“On arrival, the body was found face up, with a stab wound on his chest. His groceries were nowhere to be found. His next of kin have not yet been informed and a case of murder is being investigated,” adds Thakeng.
According to Thakeng, the deceased was last seen alive on 6 December 2022 at about 21:00 when he was allegedly seen buying groceries at a St. Helena shop and left for his workplace.
