The Kestell-based ward councillor, near Harrismith in Maluti-a-Phofung, was arrested alongside his co-accomplice on Sunday 1 January 2023, for allegedly assaulting a foreign national.

OFM News previously reported that on New Year's Day, at about 08:45, the two suspects, aged 46 and 39, allegedly insulted and assaulted the business owner and damaged his property. 

Free State police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring said that both suspects followed the victim and continued to assault him at the police station after he went there to report the matter. The ward councillor and his accomplice were both arrested on the spot by the police on duty and were detained. 

They are set to face charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property.
