Some Mangaung residents face water cuts | News Article

Residents of Soutpan and Ikgomotseng in Bloemfontein have been told to brace themselves for a water interruption on Friday 6 January 2023.

According to the Mangaung Metro Municipality's spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, the water interruptions are mainly due to the planned power outages by Eskom for maintenance purposes. Khedama added that the interruption is expected to take place from 08:00 until 18:00.

The municipality has since apologised for the inconvenience.

Free State residents across different towns and cities have recently had to deal with constant water supply interruptions due to either burst pipes or maintenance of infrastructure. Load-shedding and load-reduction also contributed to water-shedding as there was not sufficient power to pump water into the system.

This week residents of Doornpan in Welkom were allegedly collecting water from a small river stream after being without water for the past two weeks. Matjhabeng municipal spokesperson, Tshediso Tlali, told OFM News that residents have been struggling with water due to a pipe burst that occurred on 24 December 2022. He further said the municipality struggled to get the pipe fixed in time, as companies that supply them with the needed materials, were closed for the festive season. Even though the municipality fixed the pipe on Tuesday, 3 January 2023, the pipe burst again just as the water supply was being restored to most areas. However, it was immediately attended to and water has since been restored.
