Police have launched a manhunt following an armed robbery at the Nala Local Municipality in the Free State.
According to the provincial police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, suspects took cash, cell phones and laptops at the pay point of the Bothaville-based Nala municipality and fled the scene with a silver Volkswagen Polo.
Thakeng says the incident took place on Monday 9 January 2023, at about 09:30, while a 54-year-old municipal employee was busy serving clients with two other colleagues at a pay point in Naledi Kgotsong, Bothaville. Three men entered the business premises with a gun. He adds that a gun was pointed at the complainant and the suspects demanded money.
“He heard his two colleagues scream and they were also pointed with handguns by two additional, masked suspects. An undisclosed amount of cash was robbed, two cell phones belonging to the complainant and his colleagues, and the laptop of the municipality.
A silver Volkswagen Polo with no registration number was seen driving off from the scene. No shots were fired and nobody was injured, he said.
Thakeng has requested anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the three suspects to contact Detective Segeant Sam Seloana at 082-466-7923 or crime stop number 08600-10111.
