Provincial police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, explains that at about 00:09 police were informed about the incident.

On their arrival, they were informed that a petrol attendant was approached by five unknown men wearing balaclavas and was attacked while sitting in a room. It's alleged that the gun-wielding men instructed a petrol attendant to lie on the floor facing downward. After a few minutes, he heard an explosion, whereafter the suspects fled the scene.

"No vehicle was seen at the scene. The Explosive Unit was summoned to the crime scene, where a detonator and a 9mm cartridge were found and seized. A case docket was opened and is being investigated," adds Thakeng.

Police have since requested public assistance in locating five suspects involved in the ATM bombing incident.
