Police arrest two for illegal possession of guns, ammunition─── 05:44 Mon, 30 Jan 2023
Two suspects were arrested at their house in Kanana on Friday for the possession of five shotguns, various guns, 9mm and R5 ammunition, blasting cartridges, and shock tubes.
The suspects, aged 30 and 33, are expected to appear in the Orkney Magistrate's Court on Monday 30 January 2023. Their arrest came after members of the Anti-gang Unit and Flying Squad acted on information received.
Investigations into the matter are under way and the police cannot rule out the possibility of linking the suspects to murder and business robbery cases reported in November 2022.
The provincial police commissioner of North West, Sello Kwena, congratulated the team on a job well done. He pointed out that the removal of firearms from criminals will "certainly prevent the commission of serious and violent crimes and the loss of innocent lives".
