Courier employee robbed at gunpoint in Free State─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:43 Wed, 08 Feb 2023
Free State police are requesting public assistance in locating suspects who robbed an employee of a Klerksdorp courier company while he was delivering a large amount of medicine in Bothaville on Tuesday.
Provincial police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng stated that the employee (40) of a courier company was hijacked at gunpoint on Tuesday 7 February 2023, at about 09:50, while he was delivering medicine at a doctor’s surgery.
The driver was allegedly approached by a male person when he was about to get into his delivery vehicle. He was instructed to sit in the middle. The second suspect appeared at the passenger door and they drove off to the industrial site.
Thakeng added that the complainant saw another vehicle reversing and the canopy was opened. All the medicine was packed into the other vehicle. The driver of the courier company was then forced inside the boot and the suspects drove off to an unknown destination.
According to Thakeng, the victim was rescued by someone who was passing the place.
He says the incident was reported at the Bothaville Police Station and a case of armed robbery and carjacking was registered for further investigation. Thakeng has requested anyone with information to contact the Bothaville Police Station.
