Free State parents 'demand dismissal of headmaster'─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 13:07 Thu, 16 Feb 2023

Parents of the Welkom-based Bedelia Primary School in the Free State are allegedly calling for the dismissal of the school principal.
Earlier on Thursday, there were allegations of a hostage situation at the school. However, the provincial police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, has since dismissed these allegations.
Thakeng informed OFM News that after the police were called to intervene at the school, they found close to 50 parents standing at the school gate, calling for the principal to evacuate the school premises following allegations of his suspension.
Thakeng explained that there was no hostage situation and parents dispersed peacefully after the intervention of the police.
A parent posted a message on social media to other parents of children at Bedelia Primary School, to fetch their children as the school is out because of teachers striking. Another parent responded saying "it is because they do not want a white principal".
According to her, a white principal has allegedly been appointed and will replace the acting black principal.
No case has been registered and the school is being monitored by the police.
OFM News has sent an enquiry to the school and is awaiting a response.
