Maape’s Sopa deemed dreadful─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 11:54 Mon, 27 Feb 2023

The DA in the North West says Premier Bushy Maape's State of the Province Address (Sopa) was dreadful.
DA member of the Provincial Legislature Freddy Sonakile said Maape quoted President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address when he mentioned that residents need answers and solutions. According to Sonakile, the entire speech had no tangible solutions to failures which have been created by the government.
“Premier Maape mentioned an energy strategy to be formulated. As is always the case with ANC-led governments, talk is cheap. Load-shedding is not a new problem. South Africa has been burdened by load-shedding for the last 13 years and is currently under the yoke of Stage 6 load-shedding. His government is still planning to craft a strategy to deal with this problem the ANC created. Premier Maape’s administration has no plan to assist North West businesses and residents affected by load-shedding. It is important to note that Premier Maape changed his tune about the ‘excellent’ state of roads in the North West as he stated during the State of the Nation debate in Parliament last week, to the reality, that the province’s roads are in a dire state,” stated Sonakile.
While delivering the Sopa at the Provincial Legislature Chamber last Friday, Maape mentioned that the national government had allocated R13 billion to improve infrastructure challenges. Meanwhile, Sonakile added that Maape’s promised lifestyle audits on all MECs will never happen as there will be consequences for ANC cadres who live beyond their means.
