Summit to discuss TB challenges in Northern Cape─── ZENANDE MPAME 12:49 Fri, 31 Mar 2023
The Northern Cape Department of Health hosted the 2023 TB/HIV summit in Kimberley on Thursday 30 March 2023.
The National Department of Health, as well as provincial and district leaders from the local department, were present on the first day of the two-day summit.
NGOs and partners such as the Aurum Institute were also in attendance.
The National Department of Health's Chief Director for TB Management and Control, Prof. Norbet Ndjeka, outlined some difficulties in the fight against TB.
On 24 March 2023, the department hosted a 5km awareness walk/run in the Sol Plaatje Municipality to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day.
TB and HIV/Aids remain two of the leading causes of mortality in the Northern Cape. The summit's goals were to create workable plans of action in reaction to the TB Recovery Plan and to clarify roles for all stakeholders.
This year's motto is: Yes, you and I can end TB! The summit will conclude on 31 March 2023.
