Arrests made during Free State service delivery protest─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 06:32 Wed, 12 Apr 2023
Free State police arrested 18 protesters in Phomolong, Henneman on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng says a group of angry residents barricaded the entrance to Phomolong with stones, trees, and burning tyres during service delivery protests, which left commuters stranded.
Members of the Public Order Policing (POP) unit were summoned to Hennenman to attend to the matter.
Thakeng adds the situation was still tense yesterday, however POP members were on the ground to maintain law and order.
He adds the Phomolong Satellite Police Station is still open to serve residents.
Thakeng further advised residents to consult relevant authorities to reach a settlement, rather than resort to violence.
