A discarded fetus was discovered in Bloemfontein─── ZENANDE MPAME 16:35 Wed, 19 Apr 2023
A case of concealment of birth was opened at the Park Road Police Station on Monday 17 April 2023.
This was after a fetus was discovered in a black refuse bag dumped on the road in Bloemfontein's CBD.
The dead body was discovered near the corner of President Brand and Elizabeth Streets in the centre of the northbound travel lane.
The fetus’s disposal is thought to have been caused by illegal abortion.
Witnesses watched in horror as the police carried out their investigation.
There are still a few details on how the fetus was disposed of.
The forensics unit of the Bloemfontein police is also looking for the mother who gave birth.
The spokesperson for the police in the Mangaung Metro, Lt Col Thabo Covane, says two eyewitnesses who spotted the body led the police to the scene. The police’s forensics team attended to the scene and collected evidence.
He says the team immediately commenced their investigation in the surrounding residential places.
The police request that anybody with information contact the investigating officer Captain Yaliwe Mokoena at 082-526-2653 or 082-466-7490.
