Most of Social Development's budget goes to administration | News Article

This is according to the MEC of the department, Motshidise Koloi, while tabling the department’s budget at Dr Reginald Cingo Secondary School in Kroonstad.

The majority of her budget worth over R1.1 billion goes to the administration (over R307 million). Koloi has announced that her department is the leading department in terms of diversity management and has the highest female SMS representation. “Female representativity on senior management level comprises of 60% women vs 40% men,” she added. Disability representation is 5% and exceeds the national norm of 2%.

She explained that the department has in previous years committed to setting aside funds for the maintenance of the government buildings and this still remains a commitment she will carry on with. Koloi said some of the planned renovations by the department could not be completed due to budget reprioritisation. However, they have managed to prioritise three institutions in the province, Leratong Child and Youth Care Centre; Thabo Mofutsanyana Secure Care Centre; and the Botshabelo Old Age Home.

She announced that the department was able to settle its outstanding amount of ENGO on 14 April 2023, as it was previously stated that the department will not be able to get a clean audit as long as the ENGO debt is not settled. This is the department’s way to improve how their audit will be in the 2022/23 financial year, as they received an unqualified findings audit for the financial year 2021/22.
