The police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh, said Johannes Butiki Shaba (53) was attacked by four people in May last year whilst accompanying a friend who was visiting a tenant in Unit 5, Mogwase.

“Upon returning to his vehicle, Shaba’s friend was confronted by a suspect, who demanded his car keys. The suspect assaulted him and Shaba came to his aid,” she added.

He was attacked and fatally shot whilst helping his friend during a hijacking.

“He was shot twice by the suspects, who fled the scene in the hijacked bakkie, Shaba was then rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” said Myburgh.

During the incident, a 9mm Norinco pistol and a cell phone were stolen.

Myburgh said a Toyota Hilux Legend 50 bakkie was also stolen and found later abandoned at Thekwane near Rustenburg.

Provincial police commissioner, Sello Kwena, urged anyone with information to "come forward to ensure that these ruthless criminals are brought to book and face the full might of the law".

Anyone with information can contact the Investigating Officer, Lesego Mosimane of Mogwase Detectives, at 082-416-3083.
