Dr Nandipha Magudumana and her fellow suspects – former G4S security supervisor Senohe Matsoara, suspended G4S guard Motenyane John Masukela, Integration technician Teboho James Lipholo, and two other suspects – will apply to be released on bail on Wednesday.

They are charged with aiding and abetting Bester in his escape from lawful custody at the Mangaung Correctional Centre after staging a fire inside his cell.

It has now been established through DNA testing that the charred remains found in Bester’s cell, which was used as a decoy during his escape, was that of Ipopeng resident and father of two, Katlego Bereng Mpholo.

Tanzanian police arrested Magudumana and Bester after being on the run from the South African Police Services.

G4S has since dismissed three employees and suspended seven others following their internal investigations. So far 8 people have been arrested for his escape, including Magudumana’s father Zolile Sekeleni, who is currently out on bail of R10 000.

He also had the murder charge against him withdrawn by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Police minister Bheki Cele has reiterated that the police have not ruled out more arrests in the Bester escape.
