It's alleged that on 2 May 2023 at about 17:10, Lambertus Petrus Lochner (70) went to his Butchery in Voortrekker Road to check on it. Along the way, he saw an unknown man stealing cables from a building and confronted him. Police spokesperson Loraine Earle said the wanted suspect stabbed Lochner with a knife and fled.

Earle added the business owner called his wife who immediately went to him and attempted to rush him to the hospital in Bloemfontein. His wife called an ambulance which met them along the way on Raymond Mhlaba Road in Bloemfontein. Earle said Lochner was certified dead by medical personnel who attempted to resuscitate him. He had stab wounds on his chest and arm.

The police are searching for the suspect who stabbed Lochner. Anyone with information must please contact the investigating officer, sergeant Vuisile Skwiti, at 082-301-6311, or visit the nearest police station.
