Lebogang Mashigo (51) is facing charges of negligent discharging of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

According to provincial National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Henry Mamothame, Mashigo was also ordered to not interfere with investigations and state witnesses.  

According to Mamothame, the court appearance of the prosecutor emanates from an incident which took place on 8 September 2022, where the suspect allegedly entered the Taung Magistrates’ Court and fired shots at the entrance of the building before leaving.

It’s alleged Mashigo had an argument with his supervisor earlier that day, however, the motive of firing the shots is still being investigated.

Investigations thus far have revealed Mashigo has no license or permit to possess the firearm - as its licence expired in 2019. The NPA served Mashigo with a notice of a precautionary suspension, pending the completion of internal disciplinary proceedings. His case has been assigned to a senior state prosecutor to oversee, owing the seriousness of its nature.
