Sigh of relief for relocating residents of Matlosana─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 13:48 Fri, 05 May 2023
Stranded residents of Klerksdorp-based Matlosana Local Municipality in North West have finally been allocated long-awaited land in Jacaranda Extension 11.
This comes after previous numerous warnings of illegal occupation in Extensions 11 and 12. Earlier this year, OFM News reported that a member of the Mayoral Committee for Planning and Human Settlement, Mojalefa Mosupa, had received a letter of intent from residents claiming to be community leaders trying to derail the work which the municipality had done. A 2020 court order regarded these illegal invasions.
OFM News’ Joba Matsheng says that Stone Sehuba, a community leader, claimed that the municipality is wasting its time as the community is furious and prepared to occupy the land. Mosupa insisted the court order remained valid and enforceable, saying the municipality will act on any illegal occupation.

The Matlosana Local Municipality said in a statement that allocation and relocation of applicants to Jacaranda Extension 11 started today (Friday).
On Thursday (4/5) members of the housing allocation committee circulated the list that had been approved by the committee in order to alert and inform approved individuals.
‘No additional parties from other settlements of the extension will be involved’
Approved individuals have been required to appear at municipal offices in person today for organisation of logistics of the move to Jacaranda Extension 11.
Mosupa insisted that no additional parties from other settlements of the extension will be involved except those eligible and only those who are on the top priority list for Jacaranda Extension 10c.
“The process will commence with the elderly and persons living with disabilities and then the remaining groups will be added.
“The physical relocation of shacks to Jacaranda Extension 11 shall commence from Monday (15/5).”
