Armed thieves entered a petrol station in Block 1, Kutloanong, at about 02:30 whilst two petrol attendants were at work.

It was apparently during load-shedding when the robbers approached the station because it was dark and they could not see properly.

The petrol attendants saw a male approaching the kiosk wearing a balaclava, he tried to enter the premises forcefully but the attendants were able to push the door to prevent him from entering.

A second male suspect joined the first one in forcing entry into the kiosk and they succeeded. Once inside, the attendants were pointed with handguns and instructed to lie on the ground.

The complainant noticed around seven more individuals working at the ATM while he was lying on the ground.

Two explosions were reported by the complainant and his colleague.

It is alleged that no money was found inside the ATM, so the suspects robbed the attendants of their cell phones instead.

Three cell phones worth R9500 were stolen from the petrol attendants.

Despite four shots being fired, nobody was hurt.

Police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Thakeng, said it is unclear whether the suspects fled by foot or vehicle as the victims did not see a vehicle.

A case of ATM bombing and armed robbery was registered for further investigation.
