Health MEC hands over wheelchairs─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:56 Tue, 16 May 2023
The Health MEC in North West, Madoda Sambatha, is expected to hand over wheelchairs to people in Mahikeng on Tuesday.
The North West Health spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, says Sambatha is expected to be accompanied by the Mayor of the Mahikeng Local Municipality, Tshepiso Mphehlo, at the Mmabatho Civic Centre where they will hand over 70 wheelchairs to deserving beneficiaries.
The handover comes after recent remarks made by Sambatha stating that people living with physical disabilities are often confined to their homes or beds when they don’t have access to wheelchairs. This isolates them socially as they aren't even able to use public transport. They end up feeling excluded from educational opportunities, as most schools, and in other instances, places of work, are not equipped to assist immobile people.
