A gifted man with a natural flair for cricket, Matthew Maritz (20), has had many highlights in his brief but brilliant career.
He has been selected to play club cricket in England or Australia next year and he is ecstatic about it.
“I am very excited and I look forward to seeing how different cricket is and experience the different cultures. I believe it is a big opportunity and I look forward to being there,” says Maritz.
He did gymnastics and he reached the SA Gymnastics so he felt like he achieved everything he wanted in that sport, it was time for something new.
He started playing cricket at the age of 15 and after a year of playing, he fell in love with the sport.
Maritz says he enjoys both sports but he wants to make a career of cricket.
He says that his experience playing for different teams has made it easier to connect with different people, different coaches, and different opinions. That has helped his growth as a player and an individual.
Maritz practices five to six days a week and is committed to maintaining high discipline.
