NW Education welcomes R20 billion budget allocation─── 11:07 Thu, 25 May 2023
The North West Department of Education has welcomed the allocation of R20 billion in the MEC Viola Motsumi's maiden speech in Mbatho. It is an increase of 1.1% from 2022/23.
Motsumi said a budget of R904 898 000 will be allocated to Public Special Schools, this is a 4.9% increase, and the money is provided to support learners with special education needs in 32 schools in the province.
"We took a hard knock by underspending about R1.1 billion of our 2022/23 budget, and as part of the strategies of ensuring that this does not recur, we have immediately brought to book the senior managers who contributed to that," says Motsumi.
About R981 960 000 is set for administration, and as part of job creation programmes within the education sector, and R405 590 000 is allocated through the Presidential Youth Empowerment Initiative.
Motsumi says the budget for Special Schools will cater for running costs, hostels and transport subsidies.
