North West provincial government deploys new graduates to municipalities─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:30 Sun, 25 Jun 2023

Acting premier Nono Maloyi addressed 100 graduates at North-West University this past week as part of an event welcoming them to the municipalities where they will be working.
Their employment is thanks to a partnership programme between local government and the university. In his speech, Maloyi said that North West municipalities are in a dire state because of unqualified staff holding senior positions.
“Our municipalities are having serious challenges in the North West province. One of those challenges is its bad audit outcomes. There is an absence of qualified people in those municipalities, or people who do not have relevant academic qualifications, and as a result we are unable to perform,” he said.
Maloyi also raised concerns about the high vacancy rate in senior positions and municipalities’ continued failures to address challenges. He stated that he was surprised when one North West mayor informed him that they were without an engineer as one is on suspension, while the other is on leave. Maloyi advised the newly appointed graduates to use this opportunity and to avoid being influenced by people who are not doing their jobs in municipalities.
